Loudoun Families for Children is a non-profit organization that provides emergency and respite care, as well as mentoring to children in need. The organization relies solely on trained volunteers and families to provide all services. Emergency care providers take in children for a short period when a child can not safely remain in his or her own home. Respite care volunteers may provide services during a particularly stressful time and mentors work with children that can benefit from a consistent, on-going relationship. The majority of referrals to LFC come
from the Loudoun County Department of Family Service’s Child Protective
Services Unit. Referrals are made for a variety of reasons: from
homelessness, substance abuse, or mental health issues that affect a
parent’s ability to properly care for their children to allegations of abuse
or neglect. Whatever the situation, LFC provides a safe and caring
environment to these vulnerable children. |
