How Saint Gabriel's Came to Be
Saint Gabriel's Episcopal Church is a young church. We started public worship in March 2003 and currently have over two hundred people who call St. Gabriel's home. St. Gabriel's was begun as a daughter church of St. James' Episcopal Church in historic Leesburg, in order to share the Good News of Jesus Christ with the new and growing communities in the Leesburg and Ashburn areas. We welcome people of all different backgrounds; life-long Christians to spiritual seekers. We value the diverse cultural and social make up of our members, and seek to be a church that reflects the breadth of the community in which we live.
St. Gabriel's lives out its mission to "Experience Life-changing Encounters with God, Build Meaningful Relationships, and Make a Difference in the World" through inspiring worship, faith-building discipleship, warm fellowships, heartfelt pastoral care, and active outreach and service in the church, the community and the world.
Due to an abundantly generous donation of land from the Harris family of St. James', St. Gabriel's now has over ten acres on which to plan our future home. the land is located just east of Leesburg on the northeast corner of Battlefield Parkway and Fort Evans Road. We envision our future campus to include beautiful space for worship and community life, day care and pre-school facilities, a teen center, and inspiring places of outdoor sanctuary. We see our land as evident of Got's promise for the bright future of St. Gabriel's.
Meanwhile, we are blessed to have a wonderful Sunday worship and educational space at Belmont Ridge Middle School. In addition, our mother church, St. James', hosts us for weddings, funerals, classes, and office space. Members also open their homes for other small groups, classes, and fellowship events, reminding us that the church is not a building, but the people gathered in faith. In answer to the question, "When will you build the church?" the answer is "We are building it each time new people join St. Gabriel's."
Come grow with us!
