From the Weeds to Water to the Wiring

It was a rollercoaster week of ups and downs at St. Gabriel's at Our Redeemer.

The campus came to digital life this week as our network installation began — the technical equipment that will expand WiFi across the entire campus and bring internet to the offices and to the church for our livestreams. A new smart thermostat was also installed in the Nave, with sensors added in the undercroft, since both spaces share the same AC system. This will let us better balance the temperature between the two — they've sometimes been 10 degrees or more apart.

Cindy spent more time organizing the sacristies this week, including giving the cabinets in the historic sacristy a fresh coat of paint.

Landscaping work began, and the front of the church facing Rt. 50, along with the Columbarium, has finally been cleared of weeds — some were taller than a person! There was so much that the crew filled their entire trailer with weeds alone. They'll be back this week to continue cleaning up the property.

On the day the Columbarium was cleared, a huge storm rolled through — and it turned out to be a blessing in disguise, giving us real insight into what's been causing the undercroft leak. With the Columbarium now cleared, we could finally see the drainage issues clearly. We'll investigate further this coming week and hope to nip it in the bud.

On the downside: we learned that more than one of the AC units that were underperforming or not working at all may need to be replaced entirely. They're older units that use a refrigerant that's no longer available.
