Drainage & the Undercroft Last week we discovered a problem with the outdoor drainage system — the piping that carries rainwater safely away from the building during a storm. This week, our team excavated the entire drainage system, along with a section along the wall where moisture has been seeping in. Because this work took place near the columbarium, great care was taken throughout to respect the remains interred there. What we found: the 30-year-old drainage system has failed in several spots. Temporary drainage pipes are now in place, and repair of the non-functioning sump pump is scheduled.

The Main Office is Ready! During the years the building sat empty, a large light fixture fell from the office ceiling, leaving behind a live wire (safely capped, with the breaker off) and a good deal of fallen drywall. This week, all of it was repaired — the wire has been decommissioned, and the ceiling patched and painted. With that done, DJ got to work organizing the office and clearing out extra furniture. The main office is ready for us to move in!

A Glimpse Beneath the Carpet The aging, worn carpet in the church sanctuary was removed this week, revealing the original pine floor beneath — along with the patches and repairs it has quietly carried through the years. This weekend, we meet with a flooring company to explore how best to honor this piece of the building's history: whether by restoring the pine to its original beauty, or by giving it a new finish that will carry the sanctuary well into the next chapter of our life together. Either way, we're excited to see what's underneath begin its next story.

Neighbors, Great and Small We met some of our neighbors from the rest of God's kingdom this week — including a rather large spider who had taken up residence in the parish hall and met a swift end after startling one very (or not so much) brave (who we no know can scream quite loud) member of our team, and a deer who greeted DJ on his way out of the campus one evening.

Our First Sign Message Our first message went up on the sign this week, a word from Isaiah 43:19: "See, I am doing a new thing." We'll add our web address next week.
