Vendors, Valves, and Vintage Plans

A Busy Week with Vendors This week was full of vendor meetings, as we move forward on two important fronts: replacing the failing AC units, and repairing the Fire Door. The Fire Door is the last item remaining from the previous Fire Marshal inspection standing between us and our certificate of occupancy. It's the door that separates the Parish Hall and kitchen from the historic church and undercroft — if a fire were ever to break out in the kitchen, the door would automatically close to keep it from spreading. Because repairing or replacing it is a significant expense, we're taking the time to do our due diligence.

On the AC front, one unit in the Parish Hall has been out of commission for quite some time. This week, we secured quotes and chose a contractor — work will begin in the coming weeks!

Drainage Update Progress continued on our drainage issue. This week, the grate covering the sump pump beneath the walkway to the main entrance was removed, and a technician confirmed what we suspected: the pump is non-functional. A temporary pump is now in place while we await parts for the permanent replacement. The failed pump also left behind waterlogged electrical connections that looked like they'd been pulled from the wreckage of the Titanic and needed to be replaced. A familiar and welcome face was on-site for that work: our own parishioner Cesar, who handled the electrical repairs.

A Look Back in Time Finally, one of the two architects on our New Vision Task Force had the original 1998 plans digitized — the plans from when the main entrance, parish hall, and offices were added to the historic church. In the photo here, you can see the cross-section of the stairway connecting the historic church to that addition. The stained glass window pictured is the window above the high altar in the church.
